New Music – Crystal Caines, Age of L.U.N.A., Jealous of the Birds
New music hurrahs from New York, London and Portadown
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips below or check out all past New Music selections here.
You’ll know her from previous production work and collaboration work with A$AP Ferg, Baauer and BIA, but the New York-based young gun’s own tracks are just as sizzling and juicy. Check the five tracks below (especially “Black Jesus”) to see where her head is at.
Pro A&R tip: videos featuring dudes on bikes are usually a good indication of hit potential. Age Of L.U.N.A. are a youthful crew of London singers, rappers and producers turning out splendid pop tunes with a bang of 1990s hip-hop, finger-popping jazz and sweet soul to them like “Six Feet Deep” below.
Jealous of the Birds is the work of Portadown singer-songwriter Naomi Hamilton, a woman with a great command of what it takes to make spooky, startling, compelling folk tunes which twist and turn their way out of the pack. Her “Capricorn” album contains oodles of tunes which showcase a Karen Dalton-esque voice and a fine, beguiling way with songcraft. Catch her at the Oh Yeah music centre in Belfast tomorrow night (Friday July 31).
