New Music – Alessia, Gang Of Youths, Jimi Charles Moody
New sounds from London, Ontario and Sydney
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe. Please feel free to share tips below or check out all past New Music selections here.
Canadian teenager Alessia Caracciolo has got considerable pop smarts already. Her debut single for Def Jam “Here” sounds like the work of an old soul, a tune with a fantastic hazy wallop of old-school sonics all in click with a soft, tender, powerful voice which makes you want to hear from her. We’ll be hearing more from Alessia in the years ahead for sure.
The latest Aussie mob to grab our attention, Gang Of Youths’ debut album “The Positions” has just gone on release. Full of fire and emotion, the Sydney band’s brand of widescreen indie rock covers a lot of bases but does so with a power, passion and clutch of great songs. Coming to a big room near you any day now.
All we know about this dude is that he’s from London and that “Blue Honey” is the first track to come this way from him. But sometimes all it takes is one track and “Blue Honey” sounds like the work of a fully-formed talent with a clear vision of what the heck it is he’s doing. Check out the track’s beautiful soulful blur of guitar and organ all topped by a vintage voice below.
