Next-level soul music from a pair of music teachers who originally met on their first day at university. What works about the music made by the London-based Andy Clutterbuck (the singing dude) and James Hatcher (the producing dude) is that how they perfectly bring classic and new-school soul stirrings together with a strong wave of atmospheric electronic fizz and fuzz to send tingles up and down your spine. Check out “Baby Please” and prepare to swoon.
Dublin-born but Clare-raised, Twin Headed Wolf are sisters Branwen and Julie Kavanagh who play a brilliantly idiosyncratic and giddy blend of jagged folk sounds which take their cues from all over the musical shop. dragged taken their homemade, experimental instruments, including various bits of kitchenware and bike wheels, around the festival circuit at home and abroad and are currently working their way towards a debut album.
You’re probably going to be hearing a lot about this New Zealand trio in the next while so you’d better learn how to pronounce their name. Currently touring with Lorde at home, their debut EP for Cascine is full of dreamy, sepia-tinged melodies and harmonies which quickly turn into organic earworms. All the more impressive given that the music produced by Charlie Ryder, Josh Burgess and Kim Pflaum was assembled by email and Dropbox from their bases in Paris, New York and Christchurch.
