New Music – Apothek, Coast Modern, Wild Honey
New acts for you to check out from Oslo, Los Angeles and Sydney
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips below or check out all past New Music selections here.
A collaboration between Norwegian singer singer/songwriter Morten Myklebust and producer Nils Martin Larsen, Apothek’s new track “Family” is a classic in the making. Ambitious, sky-scraping and effortlessly on-point, “Family” has a great sense of self-possession and awareness about what it takes to make a strong introduction. Supporting Susanne Sundfør on dates in the UK, Germany, Sweden and Denmark in the next few weeks.
Los Angeles dudes Coast Modern make the cut because their debut track “Hollow Life” is full of possibilities and potential. Carefree vibes, mellow moods and a great knack of perfect timing mean you should add Luke Atlas and Coleman Trapp to your own watch list.
There are earworms and then there’s “Eye To Eye” from Sydney band Wild Honey. A fully-formed pop hosanna with a killer hook and lusious melodies, it’s a track which knows its pop history yet is not so enamoured to those retro scenes that it totally does the dog with a nostalgia buzz. Superb spurt of songwriting from Thom Moore and we’re fairly sure it ain’t a flash in the pan.
