For music-makers, adventurous singers, producers, DJs and others of a beats-friendly ilk, the Red Bull Music Academy is trip you may well want to experience. A music lab, festival and workshop rolled into one, the RBMA brings together musicians from all over the world for a fortnight to explore what they do and the sounds they make from every angle. There are guest lecturers, studio sessions, club nights, gigs, screenings, exhibitions and much more across the host city.

This year, the RBMA will set up in shop in Paris from October 25 to November 27 and applications open on Wednesday (January 21). More information on the RBMA, the application process and the splendidly unique application form are here. To whet your appetite about what’s involved, have a look at the lengthy list of former RBMA attendees and guest lecturers. My piece on RBMA New York 2013 is here and you can read Laurence Mackin’s piece on RBMA Tokyo from last year here.

To mark the start of the process and provide would-be Irish attendees with a flavour of what it’s all about, there will be an RBMA info session at Dublin’s Sugar Club on Friday night, featuring electro producer and singer Egyptian Lover. The event will feature an interview with the producer, info on the RBMA prococess and DJ sets from Rizm and Tu-Ki. The event is fully booked at present, but keep an eye on that page in case of returns. Don’t forget too that the application process for RBMA 2015 in Paris is open to all and not just those who turn on Friday night.
