Silvermines, the engineering and technology group, has issued a profit warning. In a statement yesterday the group said that profits in 1998 "will be significantly below 1997". This will mark its first profit downturn for many years. Despite this reversal, the group has noted it has a strong balance sheet and intends to maintain its final dividend. Page 2
