The Garda confirmed last night that an investigation has begun into a Dublin-based company, BRK, whose principal agent has apparently disappeared. Several individuals who gave money to the company for investment are becoming increasingly alarmed that the company appears to be no longer trading.

BRK, with offices in the Ranelagh area, is said to have raised money from individuals for small property development deals. Sums ranging from £4,000 to £37,000 are reportedly missing.

Both the Irish Brokers' Association and the Insurance Intermediary Compliance Bureau said last night they had no record of the company, or its principal agent.
