St Patrick's make steady progress

Leinster Schools Junior Cup/ St Patrick's CS 7; Mount Temple 3: St Patrick's Classical School Navan, the winners of the Section A Cup, were made to fight all the way by Mount Temple in the Leinster Schools Section B Junior Cup first round at Ashbourne yesterday.

Mount Temple, qualifies themselves from Section A, started aggressively and outhalf Hugh Gill's second minute penalty gave them a lead they held all the way to the break.

Loose forward Glen Predy and Shane Byrne were quick to get their hands on the ball and they gave Temple momentum in the first 30 minutes.

St Patrick's were always in contention and they left their best for the second half .

The Navan side were quick to pounce early in the second half when number eight Brian McKeever charged over beside the posts for centre Conor O'Donoghue to kick the extras for a 7-3 lead .

After that, St Patrick's forwards used the ball wisely close in and outhalf Karl Manning made smart use of the possession that came his way to keep Mount Temple in check.
