Dublin keep Kilkenny at bay

Dublin were too strong for Kilkenny at Parnell Park this evening, where Anthony Daly’s side picked up their second win of the league campaign with a 1-22 to 3-13 win over the Cats.

In the opening half, the Dubs made the most of a strong wind at their backs and opened up a commanding 10-point lead at the break, with Danny Sutcliffe claiming 1-04 before the break.

John Power had earlier netted for Kilkenny.

The Cats fought back immediately after the restart with a goal from Colin Fennelly. TJ Reid then hit the net with penalty before Jonjo Farrell pointed to leave just three points in it.

Hwoever, Alan McCrabbe, Mark Shutte and Ryan O’Dwyer gave Dublin something breathing room and they kept Kilkenny at arms length.

Ulster football champions Monaghan kept their promotion chase on track against Division Two rivals Armagh at the Athletic Grounds.

It was very comfortable for them in the end, thanks to a slew of frees in the second half as Armagh lost their discipline.

Darren Hughes also scored an injury-time goal on his first appearance of the year.

Meath rallied in the second half against Laois at O’Moore Park to turn a five-point deficit into a two-point win.

David Bray, Bryan Menton and Graham Reilly all claimed crucial scores late on as the Royal County ease relegation fears.
