Séamus Harnedy has retired after 15 years on the Cork senior hurling panel. The St Ita’s forward struggled with injury in the past couple of seasons and didn’t start any of Cork’s games in this year’s championship.
Harnedy never played minor for Cork but he made his breakthrough as a senior under Jimmy Barry-Murphy in 2013, having made a huge impression as a Fitzgibbon Cup player with UCC. Cork lost the All-Ireland to Clare that year after a replay but Harnedy finished the season with the first of his three All-Stars.
He won his fourth Munster medal in 2025 but a hamstring injury reduced him to a role as a second-half sub in the All-Ireland final. When Cork were beaten by Galway in this year’s All-Ireland semi-final he didn’t see any game time off the bench.
Harnedy turned 36 in July and didn’t play for his divisional team Imokilly in this year’s Cork senior hurling championship.

“And that’s a wrap. It’s hard to put into words what the last 15 years in the Cork jersey have meant to me,” Harnedy said in a statement on social media.
“I’ve had the honour of playing with and against some of the greatest hurlers of all time. On top of that I’ve had the privilege of working under outstanding management teams and mentors but the time has come to step away.
“Incredibly grateful for the support from my family, my friends, my club, St. Ita’s and the people of Cork. Rebels abú go deo.”
