Dublin 8 student resident scheme granted permission

Planning permission has just been secured from Dublin City Council for a 308-bed student accommodation facility at the corner of Brown Street and Brickfield Lane in Dublin 8.

Developer Greenharts Properties, which is backed by Simon Wagner, Paul Gorman and Kieran O'Neill, is behind the proposed €20 million complex that will extend to more than 7,400sq m (80,000sq ft) and include a gym, roof garden and science/technology space.

The development is adjacent to the Coombe student hospital and within walking distance of DIT Grangegorman and Trinity College Dublin.

Mark Forrest of BNP Paribas Real Estate advised Greenharts and believes the development "will be a welcome addition to this exciting, up-and-coming part of the city".

Some 80,000 full-time students attend Dublin’s nine higher-education institutions and a further 100,000 students come to the city to study English language courses each year.

The recent Government education strategy includes a goal of increasing international enrolment in Irish higher education by 33 per cent by 2020.

However, with almost no student housing built on or off campus in Dublin for several years, the supply of accommodation is tight.
