Schumacher not so groovy

Michael Schumacher yesterday launched a renewed attack on the new grooved tyres to be used in Formula One

Michael Schumacher yesterday launched a renewed attack on the new grooved tyres to be used in Formula One. Two-time world champion Schumacher believes the tyres will make Grand Prix racing less spectacular for the fans and more dangerous for the drivers.

"We are taking the wrong way, if one thinks to make Formula One more attractive," said the German. "With the new, harder tyres overtaking will be additionally difficult, with drivers struggling with less grip and higher chances to skid off the course."

Motor racing's governing body, the FIA, has ruled that all cars will have to use tyres with four grooves during the 1999 championship in an effort to curb speeds.
