Kearney’s run in British Amateur over

Castlerock man lost to England’s Garrick Porteous who had previously beaten Sharvin and Dunne

Castlerock's Aaron Kearney was the last Irishman standing in the British Amateur Championship at Royal Cinque Ports golf club following his comprehensive 5/3 morning victory over Royal North Devon's Jimmy Mullen.

However this afternoon he went down 3/2 in the round of 16 to England's Garrick Porteous, the latter something of a scourge for Irish golfers in the tournament. The latter made it a hat-trick of wins having previously beaten the recently crowned Irish Amateur Close Champion Cormac Sharvin (Ardglass) and then followed it up this morning by taking out East of Ireland champion Paul Dunne, 3/2 .
