Donegal’s All-Ireland winning defender Paddy McGrath has retired from intercounty football.

Speaking to the Donegal News, the 32-year-old confirmed that he will not be taking part in the upcoming 2022 campaign.

McGrath was an instrumental part of the county’s 2012 successful Sam Maguire run.

To go with his All-Ireland medal, McGrath also has five Ulster titles and and two Division Two crowns to his name after a 12 year intercounty career.

“To have played for Donegal just once, I never would have imagined that as a wee fella growing up,” McGrath said to the Donegal News.

“But to have had 12 years and some medals to go along with it, it’s been amazing.

“The friends made and just the honour of wearing my county’s colours, it’s the stuff of dreams.”
