Two men in a fatal stolen-car incident in which a mother of three was killed as she walked home from a party with her husband were yesterday jailed for four and 3 1/2 years respectively.

Anthony Crowley (25), from St Bridget's Road, Gurranabraher, Cork, and Roy Kenny (18), from Ardmore Avenue, Knocknaheeny, Cork, both pleaded guilty to allowing themselves to be carried in the stolen car which killed Ms June Atkins in Cork on December 13th last.

Yesterday at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, prosecution counsel, Mr Sean O'Donabhain, told how Ms Atkins was killed as she was crossing the road at around 2.30 a.m. near her home in Ballyphehane with her husband, John, after celebrating his birthday.

"They were about to cross the road within sight of their own home when this car blew the poor lady off the road and killed her," said Mr O'Donabhain, adding that Crowley and Kenny were passengers in the car driven by James Carey (19).
