London - The London-based Islamic fundamentalist cleric implicated in the terrorist campaign in Yemen yesterday delivered a stark warning to western tourists that they would be targeted for as long as their governments remained "at war with Islam".

Mr Abu Hamza al-Masri, whose movement, Sons of Shariah, operates from the north London Central Mosque in Finsbury Park, told European and American citizens to stay away from "hotspots" such as Yemen - or face being targeted as the representatives of regimes opposed to Islam. Mr Hamza, a British passport holder who lost both hands and an eye fighting in Afghanistan, is closely linked to Mr Abu al-Hassan, accused of leading the kidnap of 16 western tourists in Yemen last month.
