Mohamed Al Fayed's dream of transforming Fulham into a genuine force in world football was in serious doubt last night after manager Jean Tigana (left) made the shock revelation he could quit next summer.

The Frenchman said he wanted showdown talks with chairman Al Fayed regarding his future and if these are not satisfactory he could walk away from the Cottagers at the end of the season.

Tigana, two thirds of the way into a three-year contract, said: "This season is the last year of my contract. I don't know if the chairman wants me to stay - or if I want to stay."
