Drogheda United defender Jason Gavin has been named eircom / Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Player of the Month for April.

The 29-year-old former Middlesbrough defender was a vital cog in the Drogheda machine during April helping the club win the Setanta Sports Cup and secure their position at the top of the eircom League.

Drogheda won all five of their matches during the month 1-0, beating St Patrick's Athletic, UCD and Longford Town in the League while Linfield and Cork City were beaten in the Setanta Sports Cup.
