Dortmund closing in on Lehmann

Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has agreed terms with Borussia Dortmund, according to the Bundesliga club.

But a transfer is unlikely to be confirmed in the next 48 hours as the 38-year-old has personal issues to resolve.

Dortmund spokesman Joseph Schneck said: "It is true that we have come to terms financially but we are still waiting for him to iron out a few things that are important for him, like personal matters.

"Then we hope he will join us. But it would be too early to confirm that he'll come."

This evening, Die Bildnewspaper reported on their website that a deal had been done, quoting Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc as saying: "Between us and Lehmann everything has been settled.

"We are in constant contact. We have even come to terms financially."

But Schneck insisted the newspaper had jumped the gun.

"Jens Lehmann will not be here in the next one or two days," he added.

Lehmann left the Westphalian club to join the Gunners in 2003 having won the Bundesliga with Dortmund in 2002.

The 38-year-old lost his place in the first-team place at the Emirates Stadium to Manuel Almunia earlier this season and is keen to play top-flight football to cement his place in the Germany squad for Euro 2008.

Borussia made Lehmann their top target after goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller was ruled out for three months out because of a shoulder injury.
