Aristocratic townhouses

Sir, – When Fintan O'Toole writes that the only two surviving buildings of Lord Charlemont's estate in north Dublin are Belvedere House, Drumcondra and the Casino in Marino ("From Aristocrats to Fatcats", July 24th) he is only half right.

While the Casino has a very direct connection to the Charlemonts, Belvidere (sic) House was never in the ownership of that family.

Belvidere House was the home of the Coghills before Sir Marmaduke Coghill moved to the newly built Drumcondra House (later All Hallows College) in the 1720s.

The second remaining house of the Charlemonts in Dublin is their townhouse, Charlemont House, now the Hugh Lane gallery in Parnell Square.
