Sir, – Eamonn Doyle (“The reality of State’s unfair property taxes”, Letters, September 25th) takes issue with your editorial regarding Ireland not taxing assets. By way of refutation, he asserts that he’s been paying “substantial and grossly unfair property taxes for many years”.

Ireland’s annual property tax places us 13th of 29 European countries, well behind countries such as France, Spain and Italy. One wonders if Irish people consider the taxes on their holiday properties in these places to be “grossly unfair”? – Yours, etc,
