An exhibition compiled by graduates of a unique visual art programme on Sherkin Island off the west Cork coast opens on the mainland for the first time this evening.

The Out There exhibit attracted more than 1,000 visitors on Sherkin Island itself earlier this month, where artworks were displayed at nine locations including islanders’ homes, an abbey and along the pier walls.

They have decided to move the exhibition to the town of Skibbereen, where they will share space in a combined exhibition with FluXtra, an exhibition of drawing, painting, combined materials, ceramics, textiles and sculpture, showcasing the work of nine students of the Fetac level 6 professional arts practice course at Rossa College.

The Sherkin students are participating in a four-year BA degree course.
