Raiders of Mayo post office take 'substantial' sum

Gardaí in Ballina are investigating a robbery from a rural post office in north Mayo yesterday. Teresa O'Malley reports.

A substantial sum of money was taken from the post office at Carrowmore-Lacken during the robbery which happened at around 1.15 p.m. At least six people were involved.

There were two men and four women in the group. They distracted the postmaster and one of the women managed to get behind the counter and take a sum of money from the safe.

The group drove off in a large black car, possibly with English number plates.

There have been several similar robberies in the west over the past number of months.
