Madrid - An Oxford University lightweight rower was missing in Spain's Ebro River yesterday after the British crew's boat capsized in turbulent waters, rescue workers said.
The missing rower from Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club was identified as Mr Leo John Blockley by a Spanish national team coach who was training with the Oxford club.
"Their boat was turned over in the middle of the Ebro River. The river was full of strong waves caused by the wind," an emergency services spokesman said. The boat was one of three attempting to cross the Ebro.
