The security software company, McAfee Incorporated, officially opened its new software operation centre in Cork today.

The security software company, McAfee Incorporated, officially opened its new software operation centre in Cork today.

The centre was built with the support of the IDA and has already recruited 85 people, over half of the 152 jobs planned over the next three years.

The operations centre will have a product development team to create security products and services to protect computer systems and prevent access to networks .

McAfee Inc said over 80 per cent of the people recruited will have third level qualifications in product management, engineering and finance.

Speaking at the launch the Minister for Enterprise, Micháel Martin said the centre was a "testament to Ireland’s ability to support leading edge knowledge-based activities."

The Chairman and CEO of McAfee Inc, George Samenuk added that he was "very impressed" with the successful start-up of the centre, in particular with the standard of those recruited".
