Down defender Daniel McCartan has had his eight-week suspension upheld by the Central Hearings Committee after an incident of stamping in the closing stages of his county’s NFL Divison 2 final defeat to Armagh last month.

TV pictures picked up a stamp by McCartan on Armagh’s Aaron Kernan, with referee Gearóid Ó Conamha handing the corner back a straight red card after conferring with a linesman.

In today’s ruling the CHC said they “did not find the video evidence submitted sufficiently compelling to contradict the contents of the Referees’ Report” and upheld the eight-week ban from the date of the game.

Pending a further appeal to the Central Appeals Committee, McCartan would miss Down’s Ulster SFC opener against Donegal at Ballybofey on May 30th.
