A word in the ear of English teachers - it's worth noting that Laoise Education Centre, Portlaoise, Co Laois (phone 050261170) is co-ordinating in-service training for the new English Leaving Cert syllabus. The support programme began in early December with meetings throughout the country and will continue over the current year and throughout the following school year.

Draft guidelines for the revised syllabus have been sent to all secondlevel schools. Rosemary Day is administrator of the training support service and Kate O'Carroll has been appointed to the in-service support team.
