A man is recovering in hospital after being shot in the face.

The 21-year-old victim was fired upon at Hyde Road in the Ballinacurra Weston area of Limerick shortly after midnight, gardaí said.

He was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in the city where his injuries are described as non-life threatening.

Detectives later arrested a 19-year-old man. He is being questioned by detectives at Roxoboro Road Garda station, where he is being held under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

They have appealed for information about the attack.
