The woman at the centre of the controversy which led to the resignation of the former junior minister, Mr Bobby Molloy, was entangled in a fresh row yesterday when a dispute over an unpaid parking ticket escalated into an angry face-off with her local authority.
Anne Naughton created a political sensation earlier this year when she wrote to Mr Molloy, her local TD, on behalf of her brother, who had been convicted of rape.
Yesterday she was standing firm in her disagreement with Galway City Council,
Ms Naughton is refusing to pay an €80 clamping fine imposed after she parked on the footpath near Galway's Eyre Square on Tuesday. Despite her protestations of innocence, the corporation is adamant that her car will remain clamped until she pays up.
