THE US: Someone in the state of West Virginia has won the largest single Powerball lottery jackpot in US history, with $314.9 million , CNN said early yesterday quoting a Powerball spokesman hours after the Christmas Day draw.
After a hectic Christmas Day in which thousands of last minute players bought numbers, the draw came up with the winning numbers: 5, 14, 16, 29, 53 and powerball 7. The winner has a choice of taking the prize in 29 annual payments or in a one-time payment of around $115 million after tax.
The jackpot is the biggest to have been won by a single person, but the third-largest since the lottery started in 1992. - (AFP)
