Golf:Dustin Johnson is in pole position to win the first PGA tournament of the year after some impressive power hitting put him three shots clear heading into the third and final round at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

The tournament had been delayed for three days as winds of up to 50mph made play impossible in Hawaii, meaning two rounds had to be completed on yesterday.

Johnson did not let the late start affect him, as he missed just three greens in regulation, with his accuracy helping him to four putts at eagle on the back nine in the second round.

Scores of 69 and 66 have put Johnson at 11 under par, with his only blemish in the second round coming on 17, although that dropped shot was followed up by an eagle on the last.

"I'm pretty pleased with my equipment. I'm pretty pleased with my game right now," Johnson said.

Johnson is three shots clear of fellow American Steve Stricker, whose first round of 71 was followed up with an impressive 67, with an eagle at the last following up three consecutive birdies from 13.

Stricker was in danger of not completing the day, having not yet recovered from shooting pains down his left side which he has felt for the past month.

"It felt as crappy on the first hole as the last hole," he said. "You've just got to go out and play and play your hardest and see what happens. I've been in that position where he's at now. It's a tough spot. It's tough to win in front. We've got really nothing to lose tomorrow and it makes it a little bit easier for us, but tougher on him."

Bubba Watson is a further shot back at eight under after he recovered from two dropped shots in the opening nine holes to pick up four birdies in the back nine to move into contention.
