SCHOOL'S GAMES VINNIE MUARRAY CUP QUARTER FINALS: Newpark CS 15 De La Salle Churchtown 3:NEWPARK PRODUCED a strong second-half effort to book their place in the Vinnie Murray Cup semi-final at Railway Union yesterday. Outhalf Michael Halpin scored all 15 points for the Blackrock school with a brace of tries at either end of the half doing the damage.

De La Salle, who lost captain Niall Mahon in the first half, faced a determined Newpark after the interval and a Halpin chip into the corner gave them the field position to do some damage.

Rafe Garland won the lineout on Churchtown’s throw, and after outside centre Eoin O’Connor’s inside line gave them go-forward ball, Evan Thornley fed Halpin who stepped inside the cover and crashed over. He missed the conversion, but exchanged penalties with DLSC’s Ian Burke. And as the game entered injury time Thornley’s delicate chip over the onrushing defence was touched down by Halpin to finish the job.
