Michael Hoey fails to kick on in Thailand Classic

Michael Hoey failed to capitalise on his strong start in the Thailand Classic as he dropped down the leaderboard after his level par second round at Black Mountain.

Hoey was overnight leader and started his second round three shots off the lead of Miguel Angel Jimenez who carded a six under par 66 to reach 11 under par for the tournament.

The Ballymoney man made a steady start parring his first three holes and then picking up a shot on the fourth to lie nine under at the turn.

However, he dropped his first shot of the tournament on the 11th and despite making a birdie on the 13th he dropped another shot on 16 to give him a 72 and leave him tied for sixth place.

Elsewhere Damien McGrane had a far better second round, making seven birdies in a five under par round of 67, which leaves him three under par and tied for 48th spot.

Jimenez continued his good first day form, which saw him make an eagle on the ninth, as he made seven birdies second time out.
