No contest as Kerry demolish Tipperary in McGrath Cup

Kerry led 0-8 to no score at first water break and were 0-12 to 0-2 ahead at half-time

Kerry were much too strong for Tipperary in a one-sided McGrath Cup senior football semi-final at Templetuohy last night, running out 21-point winners.

As a contest, it was a non-event. Kerry led 0-8 to no score at the first water break and were 0-12 to 0-2 ahead at half-time.

The Kingdom showed no sign of taking their foot off the pedal in the second half, completely dominating the opposition.

At the second water break they led 0-18 to 0-4, and shortly after resuming for the last quarter Paudie Clifford was set up by Paul Geaney for the only goal of the game.

Kerry, who meet Cork in the final, were clearly setting down a marker for the year and with Killian Spillane, Seán O’Shea, Michael Burns, Paudie Clifford and Paul Geaney all looking very sharp, Jack O’Connor’s new reign at the helm looks like starting with a trophy win.

Tipp were completely outclassed, scoring just two points from play. Conor Sweeney, their main threat in attack, was well marshalled but Jordan Moloney, Jimmy Feehan, Bill Maher and Eanna McBride worked tirelessly throughout.
