Americans regain the intiative

After losing the morning foursomes 2.5 to 1

After losing the morning foursomes 2.5 to 1.5, the United States are back in the ascendancy in this afternoon's fourballs at the Ryder Cup. Although Lee Westwood answered Boo Weekley's opening birdie — they were facing each other again after Friday's heated duel — neither he nor Hansen could even par the sixth and they slipped on behind.

Sergio Garcia and Paul Casey were one down too, as were Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson after four in spite of Stenson winning the first against Phil Mickelson and Hunter Mahan.

The other game was level. Ian Poulter, now with Graeme McDowell, won the first, but Kenny Perry birdied the next to put him and Jim Furyk square again.
