Remigration and the Irish Abroad

Calls for remigration could have consequences for Irish emigrants overseas

Sir, – I see Ireland’s anti-migrant campaigners are going international (“Irish far-right figures join gathering in Portugal to push idea of remigration’,” June 2nd).

Do they realise that, if they get their way, other countries might start making their Irish immigrants – most of them, like myself, economic migrants – remigrate too?

With hundreds of thousands of native Irish “remigrants” looking for housing, healthcare, jobs, benefits, etc, the country would surely be in a state that makes all its current crises seem like minor irritants. – Yours, etc,
