Political animals

Trunk call

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – There is one obvious answer to Joe Humphreys’s question posed in “Some people believe animals should have political representation. But which animals?” (Unthinkable, Opinion & Analysis, October 7th), and that is the elephant.

Representation for a cohort that “never forgets” would surely benefit all constituencies and be repellent to chancers and promisers.

While those gathered in party political rooms would be much less likely to ignore the elephant in their midst. – Yours, etc,

MICHAEL GANNON,

Kilkenny.
