'Securocrats' blamed for threat to peace process

Sinn Féin has claimed that British "securocrats" pose a serious threat to the North's peace process. It yesterday launched a document which it said showed the role of British intelligence in a series of events, including the Castleragh raid.

North Belfast Assembly member Mr Gerry Kelly, said "fairytales" blaming republicans were fabricated by those responsible for the raid. Other stories were concocted about IRA pipe-bombs in the Middle East and weapons-buying in Russia.

"This has been seized upon by Mr Trimble in his battle with the DUP, and anti-agreement elements in his own party, for ascendancy in the wider unionist constituency. The effects of all this, as is clearly the intention of those behind the whirlwind of spin, has been to destabilise unionism and the entire process."
