A man was stabbed while walking his dog after two men stopped him to ask for a cigarette, police said this morning.
The man (61) was attacked in a lane between The Branch and Springtown Industrial Estate in Derry.
Police said one of the men lunged at the victim and stabbed him in the chest at about 10.30pm yesterday.
He was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
