Man beaten with claw-hammers in Derry

A man is in hospital in Derry today after being seriously assaulted by five masked men with claw-hammers early this morning.

The 24-year-old was attacked in his home at Knockalla Park at 1.45 and suffered a fractured arm and deep cuts to his face and back. The RUC is investigating.

Earlier a couple and their 19-year-old daughter escaped injury when a petrol-bomb was thrown at the front door of their house in Ballymena in Co Antrim.

The front door of the house at Millfield, Dunclug, was scorched in the attack just before midnight last night.
