London - A new study by a British medical team said yesterday that adding fluoride to water supplies can help cut tooth decay.

However, the study, by the NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination in York, found that adding fluoride to water increased the prevalence of fluorosis, causing mottled and discoloured teeth. The Health Minister Lord Hunt said he welcomed the report's findings and said he was seeking further research to strengthen the evidence.
