A fishing boat was rescued off the northwest coast after it lost engine power.

The Sligo-based Coastguard helicopter and two lifeboats were involved in operation, after the boat got into difficulty 18 miles north of Malin Head.

The Coastguard at Malin Head said the owners of the boat had raised the alarm.

"It was just reported that it lost all its power yesterday evening and it was taken under tow to Lough Swilly. There was no danger at anytime or any risk," said a spokesman. Five crew members were on board the boat.

The boat, which had been crab fishing, is being towed into Rathmullen Harbour by the Lough Swilly lifeboat this morning
