SDLP Assembly member Mr Seán Farren has been selected to contest the North Antrim constituency in the upcoming British general election.

Speaking after his selection Mr Farren said: "The forthcoming general election will be a critical one for the people of Northern Ireland as a whole.

"We are facing a major threat to the Good Friday Agreement and some people are beginning to lose faith in the Agreement's potential for political progress.

"The SDLP remains strongly committed to the Agreement as the best basis for progress.

"The Agreement creates partnerships between our political representatives, not only in the North but in the South as well. Out of such partnerships will grow the support essential for a genuinely united country," he added.

This will be the seventh time that Mr Farren has represented the SDLP in general elections in the constituency.
