Manilla - Philippine President Joseph Estrada yesterday rejected calls to step down over his alleged involvement in an illegal gambling scandal, insisting he will finish his term, his official spokesman said.
A former Estrada friend, the provincial governor, Mr Luis Singson, has alleged the president received huge payoffs from illegal gambling lords. Both houses of Congress are investigating his allegations and opposition congressmen say they will begin impeachment proceedings.
