Rain warning issued with heavy showers and wind predicted

A rain warning is in place for Cork and Kerry today as wind and heavy showers are expected to sweep across the country on Wednesday.

Met Éireann issued a yellow "be aware" alert, which is in place until 9am. Up to 25-40mm of rain is expected to fall.

People woke up to a cloudy morning with patches of mist and fog after the bank holiday weekend, with rain and drizzle in Leinster and Ulster.

Sunny spells and scattered showers are expected later in the day and it will stay warm with highest temperatures reaching 20 degrees.

Heavy showers will return tonight across west Munster, Ulster and Connacht while Leinster will stay mainly dry.

Forecasters said Wednesday will be “quite windy” with heavy showers across the country.

Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees are expected as the rain will clear in the evening.

Some thundery showers are expected on Thursday while the highest temperatures will reach 20 degrees.

The weather is looking better for Friday as it will be mainly dry with sunny spells.

Later on Friday there will be rain and drizzle in the west and north coasts that will spread to Ulster and Connacht during the night.

It will be “very warm”, humid and mostly dry over the weekend with temperatures rising to 24 degrees on Saturday.

Sunday will be a fresher day with sunny spells, some showers and moderate breezes.
