There's a lot to be said for biding your time when you're a hot new act. Unlike so many of their peers who ran amok at the first sign of industry interest, Liverpool's Outfit decided to sit out the initial buzz back in 2011 and worked instead on teasing out their blissful, melancholic, psych-pop. As a result, "Performance" comes with a beautiful sound, some meaty substance and a clatter of great songs. While there are nods to other acts like Orange Juice who kept to the unkempt margins, Outfit's real talent lies in throwing out synth-pop lookers like "Nothing Big", "Two Islands" and "House On Fire" which move smartly towards the dancefloor. Outfit are at their best, though, when they juggle their penchant for warm hooks and twitchy electronica with more experimental soundings and you can imagine future outings taking some daring leftfield turns. everynightidressupasyou.com
