Delbert & Glen: Blind, Crippled and Crazy

Defiantly, these two greybeards come out shuffling, their trademark swinging southern country blues full of muscle and age-appropriate attitude: "I ain't old but I've been around a long time." They certainly have, in one guise or another, but it's almost 40 years since Delbert McClinton and Glen Clark shared an album. So this is something of a reunion for the two Texans, along with veteran producer Gary Nicholson. McClinton remains the epitome of the big-voiced, bear-like bar-band singer. At 72 he can still command a song and mould it into an expression of his love of life. Clark doesn't carry the same authority, but between them, and supported by great playing, they kick off this 12-track collection with a sense of mission, losing their way a little in the middle but closing out with real verve.
