Drumm extradition hearing cancelled

The hearing at which former Anglo Irish Bank chief executive David Drumm had been expected to drop his fight against extradition from the United States has been cancelled due to bad weather.

Mr Drumm was scheduled to appear before judge Donald Cabell of Massachusetts District Court on Monday at 7pm Irish time, but the court said in a note that the hearing had been postponed "due to the inclement weather".

Forecasters have warned of a winter storm in the region, with heavy snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding all expected.

A new date for the hearing will be announced by the court in due course.

Mr Drumm has been in jail for almost four months since he was arrested and twice refused bail ahead of extradition proceedings on March 1st. He has spent most of that time at Plymouth County Correctional Facility.

In an interview with the Sunday Business Post, Mr Drumm indicated his willingness to waive his right to resist extradition and return to the Republic where he faces 33 criminal charges related to transactions carried our while he was chief executive of Anglo Irish Bank.
