Soccer: Champions Shamrock Rovers ended the season with a 4-0 win over a beleaguered looking Galway United side at Tallaght Stadium.

John Brennan’s side were looking for a morale-boosting performance heading into next week’s play-off but they were soundly beaten by their hosts through goals from Chris Turner, Billy Dennehy, Karl Sheppard and Ronan Finn.

Turner scored a scorching volley to get things underway in the 29th minute, before Dennehy’s free-kick found its way into the net after goalkeeper Conor Winn flapped at the cross for a 2-0 halftime lead.

Sheppard added the third from the spot after Rory Gartlan took down Gary O’Neill in the 65th minute and Finn added the fourth when he controlled Pat Sullivan’s ball on his chest and fired home seven minutes from time.
