Rugby:Toulon have continued their spending spree after recruiting Australia outhalf Matt Giteau. The 28-year-old has signed a contract with the French side until 2013 and will join them at the conclusion of the World Cup later this year.

Giteau had been widely expected to leave Australia after the autumn’s tournament in New Zealand.

"Signed with Toulon for 18 month deal after world cup! Love the brumbies and wanna make this yr (sic) as enjoyable as I can. Exciting times!!," Giteau said on his Twitter account today.

He will captain the ACT Brumbies in their Super rugby season opener against the Waikato Chiefs in Canberra on Saturday. Giteau has played 91 tests for the Wallabies and 89 Super rugby games for the Brumbies and the Perth-based Western Force.
